WooCommerce Payment Gateway UK
Free Plugin · FCA-Authorised Institution

Take card payments on your WooCommerce store with the UK's most competitive rate, next-working-day settlement, and a free, official plugin from WordPress.org. No monthly fees, no contract lock-in.

Why WooCommerce merchants switch from Stripe and PayPal

Cheaper for UK merchants

Monek's standard UK rate is from 0.99% blended (or IC++ above £200k/year). Stripe's UK rate is 1.5% + 20p. On a £30k/month store that's £150–£250/month saved before international-card surcharges, which we don't add.

Next-working-day UK settlement

Stripe settles on T+2 (T+3 for new accounts). PayPal can hold funds for up to 21 days for new merchants. Monek settles into your UK bank account the next working day, from day one.

FCA-authorised payment institution

Monek is a directly-authorised FCA-regulated payment gateway (FRN 920628), not an agent of another acquirer. Your safeguarded funds sit in designated UK trust accounts, not in a chain of overseas intermediaries.

Stays on your domain

The Monek WooCommerce plugin captures cards inline using PCI-compliant tokenisation. Customers never leave your storefront. Better conversion than redirect-based PayPal flows, particularly on mobile.

Everything WooCommerce expects, on a UK acquirer

Inline card capture

Card details collected on your domain via Monek's PCI-tokenised iframe. No redirect, no checkout disruption.

3-D Secure 2 by default

Mandatory for UK card payments. Built in with frictionless flow for low-risk transactions.

Apple Pay

One-tap mobile checkout for higher conversion. Included free, no extra configuration.

Refunds in WooCommerce

Issue full or partial refunds from the WooCommerce order page. No separate dashboard needed.

Saved cards for repeat buyers

Tokenised cards stored against the customer record for one-click reorders, subscriptions, and back-office charges.

Order metadata sync

Authorisation codes, cross-references, and transaction status written back to the WooCommerce order for clean audit trails.

Sterling capture

Take card payments in GBP and settle into your UK bank account the next working day.

Free plugin, free support

The plugin is free from the WordPress.org directory. Setup and ongoing support are included with every Monek merchant account.

Your checkout, your branding

Card details are captured inline through Monek's PCI-tokenised iframe, so the customer never leaves your store and your own PCI scope stays as small as it can be. No redirect to a third-party page at the moment someone has decided to pay.

Authorisation codes, cross-references and transaction status are written back to the WooCommerce order, and refunds are issued from the order page itself — so reconciliation and disputes happen where your team already works, not in a second dashboard.

Live in under an hour

The Monek WooCommerce plugin is the same architecture used by the largest UK acquirers. No developer required, no custom code, no theme conflicts.

1

Apply for a Monek account

Submit a 5-minute online application. UK underwriting typically completes in 2 working days. You'll receive your merchant ID and API credentials by email.

2

Install the WooCommerce plugin

From your WordPress admin, search WooCommerce extensions for 'Monek'. Install and activate, or download the .zip from WordPress.org and upload manually.

View Monek Checkout on WordPress.org →
3

Add your credentials

In WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Monek, paste in your merchant ID, integration password, and currency code. Enable sandbox first if you want to test.

4

Configure checkout options

Choose which card types to accept, enable Apple Pay, set the default currency, and decide whether to save cards for returning customers.

5

Take your first live payment

Switch sandbox off, place a small test order with a real card, and confirm it lands in the Monek Portal and settles next working day. From here, you're done.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Monek WooCommerce plugin free?+
Yes. The plugin is free from the WordPress.org plugin directory. There is no installation cost, no monthly licence fee, and no per-transaction plugin charge. Your only cost is the standard Monek processing rate.
How long does WooCommerce setup take?+
Once your Monek merchant account is approved (typically 2 working days), plugin install and configuration takes under an hour. Most merchants are taking live payments within the same business day.
Will my existing WooCommerce theme work?+
Yes. The plugin uses WooCommerce's standard payment-gateway API, so it works with every well-built WooCommerce theme, including Storefront, Astra, Divi, Avada, Flatsome, and OceanWP. We've tested against the top 50 themes.
Can I migrate from Stripe or PayPal without losing customer data?+
Yes. Your WooCommerce customer accounts and order history stay exactly as they are. You'll need customers to re-enter card details on their first Monek transaction (PCI rules prevent direct migration of stored cards), but the customer record itself is untouched.
Do you support WooCommerce Subscriptions?+
Yes. Monek integrates with WooCommerce Subscriptions for recurring billing using tokenised customer cards. Refunds, retries, and dunning all flow through the standard Subscriptions admin.
What about 3-D Secure 2?+
It's built in and on by default. Non-negotiable for UK card payments since the full rollout completed. Low-risk transactions go through frictionlessly; higher-risk ones get the standard SCA challenge.
Can I take Apple Pay?+
Yes. Apple Pay is included free and configured from the plugin settings page, with no separate Apple Developer setup — Monek handles the underlying registration. Google Pay is not currently available through the WooCommerce plugin.
What if I'm not on WooCommerce, do you do other ecommerce platforms?+
WooCommerce is currently our only official ecommerce plugin. You can still take payments on any other platform through our hosted checkout or our developer API, which our team will help you wire up — it is an integration rather than a one-click install. Tell us what you're running and we'll be straight with you about the work involved.

Switch your WooCommerce store to Monek

Send us a recent statement (Stripe, PayPal, anyone) and we'll quote you a like-for-like UK rate within an hour. Migration is a plug-in change, not a developer project.
